Lavazza launches 2010 calendar - Italian coffee brand Lavazza has launched its 18th iconic calendar and a pan-European advertising campaign.

Meykar operates as the sole distributor of Lavazza Blue products in the Western Turkey.  The 2010 Lavazza calendar illustrates ‘The Italian Espresso Experience' through Italian music. It features six world-famous models and takes inspiration from six well known Italian songs, such as Nessun Dorma and Con te partiro'.  The calendar aims to underpin the affinity between Lavazza with fashion, art and culture. The artwork will form the basis of a worldwide multi-million EUR advertising campaign.

Frio introduces new summer smoothie: the Peach | Buzlas announced the national rollout of a seasonal smoothie, the Peach.  The newest smoothie is made with 100% whole fruit.  According to the company, the smoothie line is now available at coffee houses, delis, bars, hotels and cafes across Turkey and the Middle East.

Buzlas has big plans for the Gulf Region... Buzlas, the international slush beverage company has announced its Gulf regional plans.  The company based in Izmir is planning to open its first regional office in Dubai in 2008.


Buzlas® is Turkey’s largest slush drinks operator with over thousand units running in Turkey alone. Buzlas moves into smoothie with the new brand Frio...  Buzlas, the Turkish frozen beverages firm has made its first push into smoothie market with the launch of their newest brand Frio.

Frio will come in a variety of fruits from melon to black mulberry that are all made from 100% real fruits. Buzlas targets Morocco for 2008… Having extended its customer base to other countries since 2002, Buzlas plans to enter the Moroccan market in the first quarter of 2008. SECOND IRAQ INTERNATIONAL FAIR TO OPEN ON WEDNESDAY and Meykar Foods will be exhibiting.  Guests have begun to arrive in south-eastern province of Gaziantep to attend the Second Iraq International Fair to open on Wednesday and continue until May 27th.

The fair is being co-sponsored by the Iraqi Trade Ministry and Turkish Forum Fairs. A passenger jet carrying the Iraqi Deputy Oil Minister Motasam A. Hassan and 110 high level bureaucrats arrived in Gaziantep today.

Over 3,000 Iraqi businessmen are expected to participate in the fair. More than 1,000 companies from 30 countries will attend the Gaziantep fair.

El Torito Mexican Restaurants cool down its customers with Buzlas Granita products.  Mexican Chain with 92 restaurants in USA and 7 in Japan, is planning to open more restaurants outside Istanbul and Ankara.

Ex US pilot, Lerry Cano, started the restaurant chain inspired after a friend's gift, little bull, and named in Spanish, El Torito.  Each restaurant, on average, makes sales over 2 million USD per year.  El Torito serves fajitas, margaritas, guacamoles and tortillas to customers in its restaurants.

The BIG BIZ was born.  Elmeco has created its new machine, a 5 litre, small slush machine.  Below you will find an editorial by Umberto Cortese, General Manager of Elmeco.

"Luis Belart of Horcata Solera in Madrid phoned me in March last year.  He said to me, "Umberto, for the next season we'll need a Slush machine of 6 litres, with good technology and competition.  There is the market and I'll engage myself to buy 150 units immediately".

My answer was instinctive and without delay: "OK".  I'm proud to say that we have realize in only 12 months the project "The Big Biz", plan, prototype and industrialization.  This has been possible by the help of new software and of firm conduct and of my collaborators' care, in particular Salvatore Larducci.  We have put togheter in this project little size, technologies in the van and price. As always, a characteristic, light and elegant design. Three Turkish Hotels (Top two are Buzlas customers) are among World's best ten hotels. German tour operator TUI, one of the biggest tour operators in the world, made a list of 100 best hotels titled ''TUI Holy 100'' according to the comments of its clients.

Totally 16 hotels in Turkey are in the list while three of them were ranked among the best ten.

Turkey's Amara Beach Resort (Buzlas customer) was ranked the fifth, Hotel Cornelia De Luxe Resort (Buzlas customer) was ranked the ninth and Iberotel Sarigerme Park was ranked the tenth in the best ten. In the list, there are also Robinson Club Camyuva and Pamfilya (Buzlas customer), Barut Hotel Arum, Hotel Cornelia De Luxe Resort, Hotel Delphin Deluxe Resort (Buzlas customer), Hotel Sunrise Queen (Buzlas customer), Iberotel Sarigerme Park and Club Lykia World Village. Meykar Announces GAP Food Trade Show Was a Tremendous Success. The company's Marketing Director, Emre Fidanboy, announced that the GAP Food, Gaziantep tradeshow, which was held September 22th and 25h at the Gaziantep Convention Cente, was by all accounts a tremendous success. "Bottom line is we stole the show," stated Mr. Fidanboy. "We were the hottest, most exciting booth there. We had a hard goal. The conversion process of turning leads into distributors is already underway and I am supremely confident that we will have commitments before the end of next week. Our team will be on the road for the best part of the next two months and we are confident that we can and will surpass our goals.

With Maritim the convention and conference business can now even take place at the beach, as the five star hotel Pine Beach Resort on the Turkish Riviera is now being run as a Maritim hotel. "This is our first step onto the Turkish market with more steps to follow", said Mr. Wolfgang Hedderich, managing director and shareholder of HMS International Hotel GmbH which cooperates with Maritim.

Istanbul Grand Prix tickets nearly sold out. Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) President Murat Yalcintas and ITO council members have examined Istanbul Park Track where the Turkey Formula 1 Grand Prix will be held. Most of the tickets have already been sold Yalcintas told. The track cost about 300 million new Turkish liras including all infrastructure works to construct, and according to Yalcintas, "The contribution of this track to Turkey’s promotion is tremendous. It is one of the biggest investments for Turkey."

Carrefour Turkey, a customer for Buzlas® products for its many rental stores in shopping malls expands through acquisitions.

Carrefour would become the leader of the Turkish food retail business operating under its 3 main formats: hypermarkets, supermarkets and discount stores.

Carrefour Turkey has entered into a binding agreement with Fiba Holdings to acquire the shares it owns in two Turkish retailers, Gima, which is listed on the Istanbul stock exchange, and Endi. Gima is the number 3 supermarket chain in Turkey operating 81 stores throughout the country. Gima is listed on the Istanbul Stock Exchange.

Endi is the number 4 discount chain in Turkey operating 45 stores. GIMA and ENDI together reported 2004 consolidated net sales of approx. euro 384 mm.

Fiba owns 60% of Gima and 56% of Endi. Gima owns the remaining 44% of Endi directly.

Following the acquisition of Fiba’s shares, Carrefour Turkey would launch a public tender for the remaining shares in Gima. The closing of the transaction and the finalization of financial terms are subject, inter alia, to the undertaking of due diligence and the approval of Turkish authorities, including the Capital Market Board (SPK) and the Turkish Competition Board.

Carrefour Turkey is currently the number 2 food retailer in Turkey with 2004 net sales of euro 702 mm. Carrefour currently operates 12 hypermarkets, 7 supermarkets and 255 hard discount stores in Turkey. With this transaction, Carrefour would become the leader of the Turkish food retail business operating under its 3 main formats: hypermarkets, supermarkets and discount stores.

This transaction confirms the commitment of Carrefour and its partner Sabanci, which owns 40% of Carrefour Turkey, in expanding joint operations in the Turkish market. Good news for Turkey: 90% Occupancy Makes Tourism Sector 100% Happy – From ehotelier.com - President of Turkish Hoteliers Union (TUROB) Ahmet Barut disclosed yesterday that most hotels on the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts can boast occupancy rates near 90 percent. Barut indicated that the occupancy rates are down form last year's numbers, but the decline could be attributed to the fact that the number of beds has increased. "The number of beds increased in comparison with the number of tourists. Hence, the approximate occupancy rate of the hotels is less than last year's number." Barut pointed out that the occupancy rate is 90 percent in coastal cities such as Antalya, Fethiye, Marmaris, Bodrum and Cesme.

The occupancy in Kusadasi is lower than the others, as are the rates in interior cities such as Ankara and Capadocia. Osman Ayik, President of the Mediterranean Tourist Hoteliers Corporation, reports that they reached the occupancy target in Antalya. "The actual data indicate to us that everything is going well, as expected. A 20 percent increase is expected. Hotels in Antalya that had 100 percent occupancy last July have nearly 90 percent this year, even though more tourists are coming to Turkey. This is because the city now has a 50,000-bed capacity.
